I have curly hair.
| Shocked by something. :) about as straight as my hair ever got. |
Shocking right? :) When I was little my hair was stick straight, then slowly it started to wave, and by the time I was in college it was curly, curly. Now, maybe you haven't noticed, but in America at least, curls are not common at all. Everyone has straight hair. Stick straight, especially when I was a teenager in the 90s. The MO then was stick straight hair. So, I spent an ungodly amount of time and money blow-drying and flat-ironing my hair so I could look like everyone else.
Well, enter my late 20s and my quarter-life crises, when I decided that it just wasn't worth it anymore. I had also just discovered the book Curly Girl, which was life changing, It talks all about types of curls (I have Botticelli curls, isn't that glamorous sounding?), and how to take care of them, which is totally different than dealing with straight hair. I decided to jump in with both feet. So, I threw out my shampoo, bought some botanical conditioner (I use Organix Coconut Milk Conditioner), started using a t-shirt to dry it, and started using a diffuser. I have to admit, for the first week or so, my hair was a little wonky, but now... I love it. I get tons of compliments on my hair. I've even had random people stop my on the street to comment on it, which always feels good. :)

I always forget that you are a curl girl! My life has been so much happier after discovering No-Poo from the Deva Curl line... I am so sad when my stylist has to use shampoo after a color job :( But, this post has reinforced my belief that all will be fine if I let my Pretty Young Thang cut my hair to save money, since I spend so much on covering up the hateful greys. Thanks!
